About the event

Join us for an evening of international community-building and friendship, and to discuss wellbeing, and advocacy for Rainbow / LGBTQ+ people in Kenya and New Zealand.

Our guest speaker, Bright Shitemi, will join us live from Kenya to speak about his pioneering work as co-founder of a youth-led mental health services provider, Mental 360. This organisation has achieved significant success (check out their website!) Over the last year or two, Bright has seen more people accessing their services due to the challenges of being LGBTQ+ in Kenya. During the event, we'll talk about our shared legacy as former British colonies, and the impact of European colonisation on Rainbow/LGBTQ+ people in both countries.

This is a free event, with the option of making a donation. All contributions will support Bright to upskill his team at Mental 360 to develop mental health interventions specifically for the African LGBTQ+ community.

Weds 07 August, 6.30pm - 8.00pm.

In-person: doors open 6.00pm, 11a Somerset St, Frankton.

Online: zoom call opens 6.30pm, event begins 6.45pm.

Co-hosted by Seed WaikatoJust Peoples, and Mental 360
